Safety is one of the key drivers behind the development of the OAS. During its development, all possible aspects of people safety were considered and subsequently translated into realistic solutions. These efforts are characterised by:
- Multiple HAZID's
- Multiple HAZOP's
- A full risk management course
- An in depth study into the human factors around living and working from a vessel in conjunction with TNO (the Dutch motion sickness consultants to NATO)
- The full rebuild of a suitable UKCS Safety Case in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive. This approach has led to the integration of several safety measures varying from indicators on several positions to inform the crew and operator on the status of the system, as well as the introduction of fail-safe components on critical items.
