Second Offshore Access System Starts Work: Southern Gas Asset

Offshore Solutions has been awarded a contract, including associated services, by BP Southern Gas Asset for the provision of its unique and innovative product, the Offshore Access System which allows the safe transfer of personnel from a vessel to an offshore installation.

This strategic step by BP marks a partial move away from the transportation of personnel by helicopter, not only reducing the risk of accident to personnel, but significantly contributing to the increase in productivity of crews working on normally unmanned installations.

The Offshore Access System was installed onboard the MV Highland Spirit in IJmuiden, The Netherlands – Offshore Solutions’ home base – on 26 June 2008 and was accepted into operation at the beginning of August.

The first operational OAS, accepted into SNS operations for Shell in May 2006 has been working since then and has made almost 2000 connections and disconnections without incident or accident.
