Highland Spirit and Smit Kamara in Great Yarmouth

Great Yarmouth was honoured with the presence of two Offshore Access Systems (OAS) last week! Not only did the BP Highland Spirit come into harbour, but the Smit Kamara was already berthed there. The two vessels will not often meet up as they are at sea for two weeks at a time and come into port on different days.

Both the Highland Spirit OAS and the Smit Kamara OAS are operated by Offshore Solutions B.V. Operators who work on a two on / two off rota. Crew changes for the Highland Spirit will take place in Great Yarmouth, whilst the Smit Kamara works out of both Great Yarmouth and Den Helder in the Netherlands.

These are the only vessels with heave compensated Access Systems on board that are successfully operating in the Southern North Sea sector. The Highland Spirit complete with OAS is chartered to BP Exploration and Operating Company Limited for 2 years (-fixed term plus one year option to extend), the Smit Kamara complete with OAS to ONEgas (Shell / NAM) for five years, having already completed almost three years of successful all-year operation.
